Dr Alison

Dr Alison Moran is excited to be the FIRST Veterinarian on the Northern Beaches who is able to offer qualified small animal chiropractic, acupuncture and soft tissue rehabilitation services.

Orthopaedics, general surgery and the management of pain in dogs and cats are the areas of veterinary medicine and surgery that Dr Alison has a special interest in.

Her post graduate studies have all been geared towards providing a holistic supportive plan to maintain the mobility of our elderly dogs and cats and provide long term relief from chronic pain.

Dr Alison has attained a Membership of the Small Animal Medicine Chapter of the Australian College of Veterinary Surgeons. In 2009, she completed her Diploma in Animal Chiropractic from RMIT, Melbourne, learning not only chiropractic techniques but also osteopathic, physical therapy, remedial massage and Chinese massage techniques.

Always wanting to broaden and expand on her skills and knowledge, in 2017 Dr Alison gained a Certificate of Veterinary Acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. In August 2019 Dr Alison will be completing her final internship to become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute.

Dr Alison is also the current President of the Australian Veterinary Acupuncture Group ? a special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association.

When is it useful?

Animals & humans can share many of the same ailments ? chiropractic, acupuncture & soft tissue services form a crucial part of human rehabilitation & these same benefits exist for our pets too.

Companion animal chiropractic and soft tissue techniques are useful for:

  • Older animals ? may help improve mobility and may reduce the dose of arthritis medications required to keep your animal comfortable.
  • Any animal with a history of a traumatic injury
  • Congenital and developmental conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, ?Wobblers? syndrome, inter-vertebral disc disease.
  • Chronic lick granulomas of the skin
  • Recurrent neck or back pain
  • Animals who have recently had major surgery
  • Other specific things which may be helped ? dry eye, cardiac disease, gastrointestinal disease, cancer, immune disease.

Does a consultation serve as an annual health check up?

Whilst a thorough history is taken and an examination is performed, it does not replace the reccomended annual wellness health exam for pets. If your pet is not a patient of Mona Vale Veterinary Hospital, you may be referred back to your regular veterinary practice for any veterinary diagnostic workups, such as radiographs, that are deemed necessary.

Dr Alison will examine your pet in a holistic manner with a lean towards their bio-mechanics and any aspect of disease that affects normal movement and function.

If you would like to make an appointment with Dr Alison, please call our reception team on 02 9999 2269. Alternatively, appointments can also be made via our online booking platform.

Hear Dr Alison talk about caring for senior pets & how her extra studies in Tui Na Chinese massage, Chiropractic & K9 rehabilitation can help our golden oldies!!

Why my dog inspired me to do senior nurse consults.

My dog, Calvin, has been a constant source of inspiration throughout my journey as a veterinary nurse. From the early years of my career, the experiences we’ve shared have shaped my understanding of animal care across different life stages.

As Calvin has entered his senior years, his needs have evolved, requiring thoughtful adjustments to support his comfort and wellbeing. Implementing small but meaningful changes, such as shorter walks, installing pet stairs, updating his medications and routines, and tailoring his diet – has helped him navigate this stage of life with greater ease.

Through this process, our bond has deepened, and I’ve become more attuned to his subtle cues and requests for support. This experience has reinforced my passion for senior pet care and inspired me to support other pet owners in providing the same level of comfort and quality of life for their ageing companions.

I am committed to helping both pets and their owners have a positive, fulfilling experience during the senior years, and I hope that through my senior nurse consults, I can make a meaningful difference in their lives.
