Mona Vale VET

Wellness Program

Congratulations on your new furry family member. Thank you for choosing us to help protect and care for your new addition to your family.

Your new puppy or kitten may have already had its first vaccination, often given around 6-8 weeks, so the next vaccination and health check will be due at 12 weeks of age. In the mean-time, why not book your FREE PUPPY or KITTEN VISIT with one of our experienced veterinary nurses.

How the wellness program works
During this visit our vet nurses will discuss with you the treatment plan for the upcoming months, which has been designed to help get your puppy or kitten started on the right path to a long and healthy life.

The first few months are a critical period in your puppy or kittens development, and we can give you the support and tools necessary to help him or her grow into a well-mannered & healthy pet. We will chat through information and advice on nutrition, flea and tick control, intestinal worming and heartworm prevention, toilet training, and behaviour.

Until your puppy or kitten has received a series of vaccines, he or she is susceptible to many serious but preventable diseases. In addition, young puppies and kittens need to be treated for intestinal parasites, which can be a common issue. These parasites, intestinal worms, can cause coughing, weight loss, and a pot bellied appearance (although they may not cause any symptoms). It is important for puppies & kittens to be treated for intestinal worms, not only to help rid them of the infection but also to prevent you and the rest of your family from becoming infected. Most of the common canine & feline intestinal worms are a zoonotic parasite, which means they can be transmitted from pets to people. By ensuring that your pet is properly treated, you can keep your entire family safe.

Fleas and ticks are also a common occurrence in our pets’ environment. Fleas can cause health issues such as anemia, diahorrea, and can cause complications with your puppy or kitten absorbing nutrients from their food. Ticks can be deadly to such young animals, so ensuring your puppy or kitten is protected from day dot is hugely important.

Puppies will also need to start on heartworm prevention, a serious and potentially fatal disease caused by parasitic worms that are transmitted to your dog as larvae by mosquitoes. These worms are found in the arteries of the lungs or heart.

We look forward to meeting your new puppy or kitten, so schedule your appointment with us today!
